Where the money actually goes.
The honest answer is that the gap between a value tyre and a premium one shows up in two places: how far the car takes to stop on a wet road, and how many kilometres you get before the tread is gone.
- Wet braking. The biggest real-world difference, and the reason to spend up if you drive in Cape Town winters.
- Tread life. A premium tyre that lasts half again as long is often cheaper per kilometre than the budget one.
- Noise and comfort. Noticeable on long trips, less so around town.
- What we will not do. Talk you into a premium tyre for a car that does 6km a day.

Which brand should I buy?
It depends on how you drive and what you want to spend. If you do a lot of highway kilometres or drive in the rain often, spend more on the tyre — wet braking is where the money goes. If the car does short city trips and sits most of the week, a value brand is a perfectly sensible choice.
Are the cheaper brands safe?
A tyre sold in South Africa has to meet the required standards, and we will not fit anything that does not. What you give up on a value tyre is usually wet grip and tread life, not basic legality.
Can you mix brands on one car?
Across an axle, no — both tyres on the same axle should match. Front and rear can differ, though matching all four gives the most predictable handling.
Do you stock brands that are not on this list?
